Beyond the spiritual preparation, a few practical details can make your trip to Saudi Arabia significantly more comfortable.

Currency & Money

The Saudi Riyal (SAR) is the local currency. Currency exchange counters are available at airports and in central Makkah/Madinah, and most hotels accept major debit/credit cards. Carry some cash for small purchases and transport.

Weather

Makkah and Madinah can see extreme heat, especially between May and September. Pack breathable fabrics, a hat or umbrella, and stay hydrated throughout the day, particularly if your trip coincides with the summer months.

• The Haramain High-Speed Railway connects Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and other cities
